Every time you pick up a new hobby, you hit the same wall: I just got into this, what do I actually need? And the internet is swamped with sites that bury the answer under twelve ranked options, a hedge on every line, and 5,000 words of filler designed for Google instead of for you.

JustBeginning is the opposite of that. Each guide names a small number of products that genuinely matter when you're starting out (a best starter, a budget pick, sometimes an upgrade to grow into) and stops there. We tell you what beginners get pressured to buy but shouldn't. We give you a concrete plan for week one. We link out to real experts when there's something we shouldn't pretend to know.

The goal is something you'd actually text to a friend.

Hi! I'm an enthusiastic hobby starter. Pickleball, pottery, sourdough, woodworking, and a dozen other things over the years, and every time it's the same experience: staring at Amazon listings trying to figure out what's actually worth buying, versus what's the shiny stuff that beginners get talked into and then quietly regret six months later.

JustBeginning is the guide I wish someone had handed me on day one of each of those hobbies. Every recommendation here is filtered through that lens: what would a beginner actually want to buy and use, what's the upgrade you grow into, and what can you safely skip until you know what you're doing.

I run a few other small software projects on the side. This one is the most enjoyable, because the research is "go learn another hobby."

When you buy through one of our links, Amazon (and a handful of other retailers) pay us a small cut, at no extra cost to you. That's what keeps the lights on.

It doesn't change what we recommend. If a product isn't right for a beginner, it doesn't make the cut, even when including it would pay more. The picks would be identical if there were no affiliate program at all.
