The wood slab is the most variable cost and the one thing Amazon can't reliably help with. Local sawmills, specialty hardwood dealers, and Facebook Marketplace from tree services are the right sources for live-edge slabs. Budget $50-250 for a coffee or dining table blank depending on species and size.

Deep-pour epoxy and table-top epoxy are different products with different chemistry. Deep-pour handles thick single pours (1-4 inches) without overheating; table-top is for thin finish coats only. Most river tables use both: deep pour for the river layer, table-top for the final surface coat. Using table-top epoxy for the river pour causes dangerous exothermic reactions.

Temperature makes or breaks your cure. Epoxy needs 70-80°F to cure clear and fully. Below 65°F it stays permanently tacky; above 85°F it gels too fast and can yellow or crack. Plan your build around the season, or heat your workspace.
